Looking for dental crowns in Glastonbury, CT? At Steven F. Hinchey, DMD, we have years’ worth of experience in fitting patients with dental crowns. They’re not as simple as dental fillings, but thanks to our highly skilled dentists, the procedure should be smooth and comfortable.
At Steven F. Hinchey, DMD, we have different types of crowns. These include metal, porcelain, and resin. We’ll always recommend a certain type based on your dental condition, but the final choice is yours. Regardless of the type, we’ll make sure the crown is placed properly so you can go back to living without dental worries.
Crowns offer protection, strength, and an improved appearance to damaged teeth. This includes cracked, chipped, or injured teeth. As the crown covers the entire biting surface of a tooth, it protects it from potential damage from biting on anything too hard.
People also get crowns in preparation for dental bridges. A dental bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Unlike implants, bridges need to be supported by nearby teeth. We can’t attach a bridge directly to natural teeth, so we have to fit them with crowns first. This alteration of natural teeth is one of the reasons implants are now more popular than bridges.
At Steven F. Hinchey, DMD, we can provide our patients with same-day or traditional crowns. Traditional crowns are made in a lab. During your first visit, we’ll take measurements of your mouth and send them to a lab so it can manufacture the crown. You’ll have to come in at a later time once we get the crown so we can place it in your mouth.
Same-day crowns, however, are done in-office. They’re usually made of porcelain, but you won’t have to come in for a second visit. We’ll take digital measurements of your mouth and transfer it to a machine we have in-office that’ll create the crown. This might take 1 to 3 hours as the crown is being made. Sometimes patients go back to work and come back to have their crowns placed.
